Welcome to Mindset Monday! Today I wanted to remind us that we have the opportunity right now, to create a fresh new start. It may seem obvious that ‘Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”- Maria Robinson; but we all know that in our everyday life, this is not usually our first thought when regret, disappointments, etc. about things we should have done or said come to mind.
More often than not, many of us tend to worry about things of the past. This is not the way to be. While it may be hard for some of us to readily accept that whatever happened (past tense!) is not in our hands and fortunately or unfortunately we cannot replay those events/occurrences again. Stressing ourselves over the past does not serve us in the least! Well, we know that stress does not serve us period!
Do you find yourself in this position? Are you allowing yourself to remain worried about the past? What is it that you are holding on to? What is it that you keep replaying in your mind, the different scenarios, taking different angles? As the old saying goes “don’t cry over spilled milk”. Why use up valuable time, energy and mental real estate, thinking about the things of the past when we simply cannot change them? This can result in a change in our mood, a headache, heartache, or some other negative and or worst effect on our mental and physical state.
Now, this is not to say that we should not consider the past at all. Sure, we can think about the past; the issue is that we shouldn’t remain worried or stressed about it. We can most certainly learn valuable lessons from the past. Such lessons that we can take forward with the determination to do things differently and better next time around; to yield a better experience and outcome. ‘Every ending is a new beginning, through the grace of God we can always start again’. Marianne Williamson
Having said that, we should focus on today and the present and try to improve it in any way we can. One of the best things we can do is to let go of the things which are over (since we have no chance of changing them) and start fresh! ?. Come on, you can do this! My favourite book reminds me that ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ ?
Remember, even though we cannot change the past, we can still look ahead and work to make our present and future better. Making a new beginning may just require a bit of self-confidence, and remember that you can do it! It could turn out to be easier than you think! ?
Rather than dwelling on the past, more importantly, let’s make every effort to use our time, energy, dedication, focus and concentration etc. towards achieving the successes we dream of, whether in our career, relationships, spirituality, or our overall health and being.
